Project Manager

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Project Management experience in the Automotive / Electrification industry. BSEE/BSME preferred, PMP Certification (plus).

The Project Manager manages key client projects. Project management responsibilities include the coordination and completion of projects on time within budget and within scope. Oversee all aspects of projects. Set deadlines, assign responsibilities and monitor and summarize progress of project. Prepare reports for upper management regarding status of project.

The successful candidate will work directly with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. He or she will coordinate with other departments within Company to ensure completion of all assignments to fulfill client needs.

Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures, such as national and regional electrical codes and safety standards. Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of tasks. Lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. A Master’s degree in business administration or engineering discipline is desired. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in project management.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience with ERP use and function.
  • Financial literacy as it relates to project management and manufacturing.
  • Experience with project management software (MS Project, Monday.Com, JIRA, etc)
  • Automotive experience desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate and understand large project and repeat business opportunities involving technical requirements as well as commercial and legal terms.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to work independently and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Requires strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Ability to travel 35% or more, depending on customer needs. This includes both air travel and car travel, in support of assigned account engagement, as well as travel to Wisconsin (headquarters) as needed.

Lead Responsibilities
  • Helping develop, maintain and implement an ISO 9001 documented, quote-to-cash project management process. Includes workflows, RASIC responsibility matrix for all departments, charts and handover procedures from Sales to Project Management to Aftermarket.
  • Sales phases:
  • Reading and understanding customer specifications and working with technical specialists to prepare proposals and quotations that adhere to all codes and standards of both the customer and applicable government agencies.
  • Reading terms and conditions, validating with legal to determine acceptability and directing salespeople on necessary negotiations.
  • Responsibility for understanding the necessary labor content of engineering, manufacturing and service hours and ensuring the correct hours in the quotation.
  • Working with purchasing to establish relationships with and get estimates from third-party service organizations for shipping/logistics, rigging, electrical, mechanical and plumbing installation services, as needed for differing size projects.
  • Leading risk assessment brainstorming to establish if contingency is needed and how much.
  • Understand any site safety, environmental, or regulatory requirements and coordinate compliance with appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Manage bid package(s) and coordinate of Company’s offering to maximize project profitability.
  • Provide operations with forecast data as required to ensure timely availability of materials and key resources.
  • Project execution phases:
  • “Pre-engineering” steps to develop bills of materials and workplans (Schedules) for Operations to properly execute engineering and manufacturing for the project.
  • Meeting cadence with customer, as required by the complexity of the project at hand. This may include meetings with architects and/or construction companies to establish facility requirements, system placements, delivery schedules. Design reviews and sign-offs as needed. At minimum there should be a kick-off meeting to review and compare company vs. customer expectations, project-appropriate interim status meetings, and a sign-off/project completion meeting.
  • Monitoring of engineering hours, direct labor hours, material costs and delivery schedules continuously through the execution. It is the project manager’s responsibility to know immediately if there is going to be a cost overrun or a schedule delay and to plan for attempts to rectify.
  • Serve as liaison between customer and operations on issues related to drawing acceptance, delivery schedules, or required technical clarifications.
  • Management of customer expectations to reduce scope-creep and manage change orders.
  • Manage the selection, schedule, scope, and budget for any required external contractors.
  • Project close-out
  • Manage customer acceptance process and project handover.
  • Handle customer objections and work with engineering, service, and external contractors to ensure timely resolution.
  • Other Duties:
  • Weekly written reports to management on the open project status and completed project performance.
