Cost Accountant

The ideal candidate is an experienced cost accountant who has worked in cost accounting in Agribusiness.

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing costs, preparing budget reports, and ensuring efficient cost management across the company’s Agribusiness operations. They will play a key part in identifying areas of improvement, optimizing the company’s financial performance, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct detailed cost analysis on agricultural operations, including production costs, labor costs, and overhead expenses.
  • Maintain accurate and timely cost records for all agricultural operations, including seed, fertilizer, chemicals, fuel, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and processes to track expenses accurately.
  • Analyze variances between budgeted, standard costs, and actual costs, identifying root causes and preparing reports with recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, production, procurement, and finance to understand operational and product processes to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, and budgeting analyses for management review.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities related to cost accounting.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to cost accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices for Cost Accounting in Agribusiness.
HIDDEN
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Must have at least 5+ years of cost accounting experience, or 5+ years of accounting experience, and 3+ years of cost accounting experience 
  • Cost Accounting experience in Agribusiness is highly preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and cost analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency using ERP systems, accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels in various departments.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
