Financial Controller
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years accounting and finance background in the construction or building materials industry (or related). Strong accounting, GAAP, AR/PR, GL, Reporting and Forecasting experience. CPA (Plus).
The Financial Controller will be an integral part of our growing business, involved in the daily management of our financial reporting systems and internal controls. This individual will be responsible for accurate financial reporting across multiple divisions of a growing business, as well as management and oversight of the organization’s AP/AR processes and bank reporting. Additionally, this individual plays a key role in monthly and annual financial projections across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will manage a team of staff accountants across divisions of the organization.
The business has recently been acquired by a leading Private Equity fund. The role would appeal to those interested in a faced-paced PE environment and/or already have experience operating in such an environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA certification preferred (but not required)
- 5+ years in accounting
- 2+ years experience managing accountants and AR/AP staff across a multisite environment
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills with the ability to discuss and explain financial information to members within and outside of the finance and accounting departments
- Strong capabilities in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
- Experience with ERP systems

Lead Responsibilities
- Assist the CFO in the planning and coordination of all accounting functions within the company. Supports the CFO in reporting for Private Equity Sponsor and other stakeholders
- Prepare reports which summarize company business activity and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Directs preparations of budgets and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justifications.
- Provides management with timely review of the organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs.
- Evaluates Commission and Bonus programs.
- Create and/or maintain a control system over accounting transactions.
- Ensure that the accounting filing system is accurately maintained and kept organized.
- Assist in the hiring of capable accounting staff as needed.
- Effectively manage the accountants on the team and hold them accountable for completing their assigned duties and following procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand financial goals.
- Gather necessary information for external auditors as requested.
- Evaluate weekly cash analysis to determine payment of bills (e.g. 13 cash flow forecasting).
- Monitor bank account activity and verify that bank reconciliations were completed properly.
- Ensure that any debt payments and utilities are made on time by Staff Accountants.
- Assess and record tax and insurance accruals.
- Assist Executive Leadership in the annual budget process and implementation.
- Prepare lender required paperwork for periodic audits.
