Electrical Designer (Drives)

We are seeking an Electrical Designer for the Test Stand Team at our Unico facility in Franksville, WI. The Test Stand team designs and manufactures highly-engineered electrical / electronic control products and systems, including solid state motor starters, variable frequency drives, OEM-specific industrial control panels, and complex control systems, ranging from 5-10,000 horsepower and 200-13,800 volts.

Working with a team of other electrical and mechanical engineers, designs, debugs, and manufacturers custom automation equipment and robotic workcells. Creates electrical enclosure and single line electrical schematic prints, analyzes and corrects redline prints, troubleshoots and debugs electrical designs, sets up communication devices (DeviceNet, Ethernet I/P, Profibus etc..) determines material and component specifications based on job requirements. Detailed knowledge of common automation components, methodologies, and standards is required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors or Associate of Science degree in technical field with experience in the industrial machinery controls design field.
  • Indepth knowledge of AutoCAD, Word, Excel and MS Windows.
  • Can read electrical schematics and component specification sheets.
  • Familiarity with power electronics, electrical packaging (enclosures), transformers, contactors, servos, PLCs, etc. Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.

Additional Desired Qualifications for Electrical Designer

  • Familiarity with PLCs, embedded controllers and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with 2-D and 3-D AutoCad/Solidworks software
    Exposure to field bus serial networks (e.g. Profibus, EtherNet, etc.).
  • Knowledge of UL and CE standards as they relate to industrial control panels.
  • Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma with expectation for further belt advancement

Lead Responsibilities
Create electrical enclosure and single line schematic prints from similar systems or clean slate. Verifies conformance of components to customer specifications. Complete load, voltage, amperage and heat calculations to ensure proper design. Familiar with UL and CE regulations. Creates electrical bill of materials. Understands proper wiring methods and codes. Works with panel shop to ensure proper panel build and ringout and I/O checkout. Maintains and helps to set standards for electrical component selection and use.
