Position Summary

Responsible for identifying, selecting, supporting, and managing supplier relationships for direct and indirect commodities to assure that products and services are delivered to the quality, cost and delivery performance levels required, as well as leading material cost reduction initiatives and delivering annual material cost reduction targets.  This position reports to the Company Chief Operating Officer and directly supervises and leads the Purchasing team members.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identifies, selects, and manages supplier relationships for direct and indirect commodities, including those with high technical or commercial complexity and/or medium/high spend, to ensure that products and services are delivered to the quality, cost and delivery performance levels required. Will serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned commodities.
  • Responsible for leading material cost reduction initiatives and delivering annual material cost reduction targets.
  • Works with engineering, manufacturing, finance, and external firms as necessary to execute assigned Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) projects.
  • Ensures all engineering, customer, security, and EHS requirements are met.
  • Responsible for hiring, promotion and coaching/disciplinary actions, as well as performance evaluation and feedback, for assigned direct reports.
  • Defines, develops and communicates the commodity strategy that drives a supply base committed to deliver 100% quality parts, on time, with continued effort to reduce the total cost of the commodity aligned with annual material cost reduction targets.
  • Reviews RFQ packages and spreadsheet analysis to make recommendations for improvement. Identifies potential suppliers and makes recommendations on supplier selection and quality compliance.
  • Performs supplier negotiations & determines most competitive total cost solutions using creativity and wide degree of latitude.
  • Executes plans to meet customer commitment to deliver 100% quality parts, on time, with continuous emphasis on cost containment. Drives projects for Sourcing team ensuring objectives are met and communication channels are effective.
  • Defines, drives and implements continuous improvement projects to ensure objectives are met. Leads simplification in the overall purchasing function.  Provides expertise to internal team as well as other internal functions.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on special projects and continuous improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, with APICS certification a plus
  • 6+ years of related experience
  • Prior experience and proven ability to effectively supervise and manage professional employees preferred.
  • Organized, proactive and results-driven; able to prioritize and delegate work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates discipline and sense of urgency in achieving results.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal and external colleagues.
  • Excellent negotiation skills required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word) required; experience with ERP system preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills required (speaking, writing, and listening).
