Position Summary

The Chief Commercial Officer owns all revenue for the enterprise. You will take a collection of strong regional businesses with local relationships and turn them into a single, scalable commercial organization that cross-sells the full service portfolio, wins national and multi-region contractor accounts, and grows revenue at a rate well above the market. You will sit on the executive team and partner directly with the CEO and CFO on strategy, pricing, and acquisition integration.

THE COMPANY

A fast-growing, multi-location business services company built exclusively for the commercial construction trades. The company serves mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractors, HVAC service and installation firms, and specialty subcontractors with an integrated set of outsourced services: preconstruction and estimating, design and BIM/VDC coordination, prefabrication support, test and balance, and back-office support including permitting and compliance. The company has grown through a combination of organic expansion and acquisitions, and now serves several thousand contractor customers across multiple regions. Leadership is investing to unify those businesses under one go-to-market model, one brand, and one commercial engine. This is the seat that builds it.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Commercial strategy. Build and execute the enterprise commercial strategy: segment priorities, target accounts, service bundles, and channel mix across HVAC, MEP and specialty trade customers.
  • Sales leadership. Lead, restructure and scale the sales, account management and marketing organizations. Hire and develop leaders, set territories and coverage models, and install performance management that holds every seller to a clear standard.
  • Cross-sell and account growth. Turn a single-service customer base into multi-service relationships. Design the offer architecture, account planning process, and incentives that make cross-sell the default.
  • Key and national accounts. Stand up a national accounts function targeting the largest regional and national mechanical and electrical contractors, as well as general contractors and owners who influence trade partner selection.
  • Pricing and margin. Own pricing strategy and discipline across services. Move the business toward value-based and recurring models (subscriptions, retainers, multi-project agreements) and improve gross margin.
  • Revenue operations. Build the commercial operating system: CRM hygiene, pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, dashboards and KPIs the executive team runs the business on.
  • Brand and marketing. Consolidate acquired brands under a unified market position. Lead demand generation, digital, trade show and industry association strategy (MCAA, SMACNA, NECA, ACCA and PHCC).
  • M&A integration. Lead commercial diligence on acquisition targets and own go-to-market integration after close: customer retention, sales team integration, and revenue synergies.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Year 1: one commercial org chart, one CRM, one forecast. Coverage model in place, leadership team hired or confirmed, and cross-sell pipeline built across the top customer tier.
  • Year 2: organic growth consistently in the double digits, a measurable increase in revenue per customer and services per customer, national accounts program producing multi-region wins, and pricing improvements showing in gross margin.
  • Ongoing: forecast accuracy within a tight range, customer retention above target, and acquired businesses reaching commercial parity within a defined integration window.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 15+ years of commercial leadership, including at least 5 years as the senior sales or commercial executive (CCO, CRO, SVP Sales) of a business with $75M to $500M in revenue.
  • Direct experience selling into the construction trades: commercial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, or specialty subcontractors. You know how contractors buy, how bids and preconstruction work, and who makes the call.
  • Background in business services, engineering or design services, construction technology, building products, or distribution serving contractors.
  • A track record of building a commercial organization, not inheriting one: hiring leaders, redesigning comp plans, installing process, and scaling revenue through multi-site or roll-up environments.
  • Proven success driving cross-sell across a multi-service portfolio and building a key accounts program from the ground up.
  • Strong command of pricing, margin, and commercial analytics. Comfortable in the numbers with a CFO and a board.
  • Experience integrating acquired businesses on the commercial side is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or engineering degree preferred.

WHO THRIVES HERE

  • A builder who moves fast, sets a high bar, and is energized by consolidating many businesses into one.
  • Credible with a mechanical contractor owner on a jobsite and with the board in the same week.
  • Hands-on. You will still carry and close the largest relationships yourself.
  • Data-driven and accountable. You run the business on metrics and expect your team to do the same.
